Read With Me II – Week Two

Posted by casey on September 24, 2010 in On My Nightstand, Read With Me |

Oopsy! So, if you read this post from this week, you saw that I didn’t realize until Wednesday that I had forgotten to actually “Publish” last week’s Read With Me post.  Instead of screwing the schedule up even more by posting it mid-week I thought I would just keep it until this Friday and get us back on track.

So, two weeks ago I left us with the assignment of beginning The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson and reading through Chapter 4.  I knew everyone said it started off slow, but it wasn’t until I heard “get through the first thirty pages” as I was on page 24 that I really felt encouraged.  Sure enough, as soon as I was introduced to Lisbeth I was hooked. (Yes…I already wanted to know exactly what scandal Mikael was involved with too.)

Without further adieu, our discussion questions -

1. What do you already know of or think of on golden parachute schemes?  If you don’t know anything at all, do a little “Google” research and get back to us!

2. What did you find most intriguing about Lisbeth and her description when we were introduced to her beginning on page 36 through Chapter 2?

3. If you were having a report written up about you by Lisbeth, what is one detail you would hope she would include, and one you wish she would leave out?

4. Would you have gone to meet Frode and Vanger? Why or why not.

5. Overall basic reaction to Mikael’s meeting with Vanger and the real job he is hiring him for.

I read this book last spring, so I am going on memory here. I am skipping #1.

    2. What did you find most intriguing about Lisbeth and her description when we were introduced to her beginning on page 36 through Chapter 2?

I’m with Casey ….this is the most interesting character. What intrigues me most is her “don’t care what you think” attitude towards everyone. She had a horrible childhood which will be revealed more in the second book….but she is a survivor.

    3. If you were having a report written up about you by Lisbeth, what is one detail you would hope she would include, and one you wish she would leave out?

Include: I am an honest, hard worker.

Leave out: I am an interupter….so get on with your story if you’re talking to me. I can’t focus for long. This habit bothers my family a lot.

    4. Would you have gone to meet Frode and Vanger? Why or why not.

$$$ would have enticed me to go hear it out. The unknown would have discouraged me.

    5. Overall basic reaction to Mikael’s meeting with Vanger and the real job he is hiring him for.

I like Mikael’s character in this book…and just being let out of prison, he was at a crossroad in his career anyway. I think he is interested in the job because of the timing and the money.

I honestly did not know much about the golden parachute schemes but I am learning.

    2. What did you find most intriguing about Lisbeth and her description when we were introduced to her beginning on page 36 through Chapter 2?
The description in the book is great! I had a great mental picture. I do appreciate her take it or leave it attitude that seems to work for her.

    3. If you were having a report written up about you by Lisbeth, what is one detail you would hope she would include, and one you wish she would leave out?
Include – That I am a great friend, worker and wife
Exclude – That I am a OCD about some things and my life and cannot move past the the item until it is resolved, my poor husband has to deal with this situation the most

    4. Would you have gone to meet Frode and Vanger? Why or why not.
Yes, this is a intreging distraction from everything else that was going on in his life.
    5. Overall basic reaction to Mikael’s meeting with Vanger and the real job he is hiring him for.
I am very excited that Mikael will be able to resolve the flowers on the wall, I was totally interested in them after reading the prologue.

    - I didn’t know much about golden parachute schemes and I still wouldn’t say I am well educated on the matter but it is super tricky. I mean, no one could be understanding of wanting to screw over who you work with but then again, most do want to protect themself in some manner.

    - Her appearance. It seems very apparent that while her appearance matches her personality (rough around the edges, edgier in general) in some manner, it also causes many to misjudge her and her capabilities.

    - I would want them to include my determination and ability to persevere through tough situations. I would actually want my family excluded so that they couldn’t in any way be wrapped up in something that the people who were writing the report on me wanted.

    - Sure! I would not have been able to keep my curiosity at bay.

    - Curious, curious, curious! I couldn’t figure out where this was going to tie in to the rest of the background we had been given.
